My name is Sonya and I am from the Bahamas. No, I did not move here. I am 4th generation Bahamian.
To be totally honest, I love food. All kinds, all shapes & colours, textures; I’ll try just about any food once. Despite my intense love of food, I want to change my eating habits and become a vegan. I am not there yet but I want to be. This blog will record my journey.
I grew up on an island 2 ½ miles long populated with about 300 people. Yeah, that’s small. And with it came all the joys & trials of small town life. It had a food culture probably similar to your own; soda, sweets, lots of meat and fish, and loaded with starchy sides like peas and rice, baked macaroni and cheese, potato salad. “Greens” were there but tolerated and eaten with distaste, literally. Or they were doctored up to taste great with things like bacon, bacon fat, mayonnaise, cheese and the like.
